Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Board + Training Program
1. At what age should I enroll my dog?
a. Your dog must be at least 8 weeks old.
b. Dogs of any age are welcome to join our board + training program.
2. Where will my dog stay?
a. Your dog will reside in the family home of our dog trainer.
3. Can I visit my dog?
a. Absolutely! I strongly encourage clients to come and see the environment where their dog will be staying.
4. Should I drop off my dog, or do you provide pick-up services?
a. Both options are available; we will discuss this during the onboarding process once a specific date and time for drop-off and return is confirmed.
5. Do you require my dog’s medical records?
a. Yes, I need either a physical or emailed copy of your dog’s updated vaccination records, along with any known health conditions.
6. Will my dog interact with other dogs and people?
a. Yes, your dog will meet my own dog, who lives in the same environment.
b. Yes, your dog will also engage with other people during daily activities, helping them learn social skills and proper behavior around both dogs and humans.
7. How long is the typical board + training program?
a. The minimum duration for the board + training program is two weeks (14 days).
b. We will discuss suggested durations based on your training goals during the onboarding process, along with a realistic timeline for achieving those goals. For instance, expecting your dog to be fully potty trained within two weeks (14 days) is unrealistic. While I can make significant progress in potty training during this time, you may still encounter accidents when your dog returns home if you don’t maintain the consistency I established.
8. How many dogs do you train at the same time?
a. I will only accept a maximum of two dogs at once.
b. If one dog reaches the end of their board and training duration while I still have another dog in my care, I will have an available spot to introduce a new dog into my home environment alongside your dog and my personal dog.
9. Will my dog be crated?
a. Yes, every dog that stays in my home will be crated when I am not present and at night during bedtime.
b. If your dog is uncomfortable with the crate, don’t worry; addressing this will be one of the initial training goals to help your dog see the crate as a secure and safe space.
10. What will my dog learn?
a. Your dog will establish a foundation in obedience, learning cues such as Look, Sit, Ok (Release Word), Down, Leave It, Stay, and Come.
b. Your dog will understand expected behaviors and boundaries within a home setting.
c. Any specific behavioral concerns discussed during the onboarding process will also be addressed.
11. What will my dog need during their stay?
a. Please provide the following essential items for your dog: a martingale collar or slip leash, a collar with an ID tag, a standard 6ft leash, their dog crate (if you don’t have one, I will inform you of the appropriate size), a crate mat, a blanket large enough to cover three sides of the crate (I prefer a blanket that carries the scent of their home over a crate cover), a dog bed, one favorite toy, and an ample supply of food for the duration of their stay (please do not prepare individual measured bags or containers).
12. What happens after the board and training program ends?
a. I will offer a complimentary in-home private lesson to inform you about your dog’s routine with me. This will help you replicate the obedience cue exercises I taught your dog and understand what to expect as well as what to continue training.
